"Spirit is a star - I'm really enjoying him and he seems really happy. We've had no problems - he's brilliant at everything! Thanks" Maria (Bristol)

April 2007. Received from Helen who bought Nemo as an unbacked rising 3 gelding in October 2006;

Dear Jackie

Just a quick note to let you know that Nemo has settled in really well, he is just like one of the family now. He is lungeing nicely and I have ridden him a couple of times in walk and today we had a little trot.  We are taking things really slowly with him as although he puts on a big brave act he is sometimes a little bit unsure of himself.

We took him out for a walk at the weekend in hand around the farm fields with the dog, Andrew & Henrietta.  He had a good look at some things but, as soon as I told him everything was alright he would walk straight past. He is lovely and so affectionate; I just thought you might like a quick update on what he is up to.

Your truly, Helen Davenport

MAY 2007:

As the proud owner of three of Jackie & Katie's beautiful Friesian mares, I cannot commend this breed highly enough.  They are a delight to ride; gentle yet sprightly, never seeming to get startled or perturbed, and sheer joy when they stretch out.  They never cease to get compliments for their elegant looks, with those stunning long manes and tails and gleaming coats.Trudie Styler

Since this testmonial was received Trudie has now purchased another two of our beautiful mares & now has five lovely horses in her stable.

"There's no such thing as a bad looking Friesian, but when I saw Joch(Jochem), my jaw literally dropped - he was just stunning! He is a youngster (4) and therefore both Katie & Jackie wanted to take the time to ensure he was the one for me - I was given time & space to decide for myself ( and also J&K - they definitely DO match horse and rider) and I was more than welcome to come and hack/have lessons until both parties were certain of a match.  Joch is 4 and has taken literally everything in his stride. He has settled into his new yard (home) very quickly and every week is moving on leaps and bounds - his basic training is amazing for a horse of this age.  I am totally delighted with him and the whole purchasing process was just unbelievable - it should be the model for horse buying in the UK - Jackie & Katie, thank you for taking care of me and finding me the perfect match."

Hi Jackie

I thought I would drop you a quick line, as we have now had Ytsen for over a week and he has done many things with us.  He has ridden in the school, walked him round our jumping field(many coloured jumps), been out on 3 different hacks with a different horse each time, and on two of thos occasions we used our lorry. He has been turned out every day for most of the day and made very good friends with the horse next to him and today he has been shod. He has been an absolute diamond and it feels like we have owned him for years. Absolutely everyone at our livery yard loves him & cannot believe how well he has settled in. Apart from being a gorgeous looking horse, his temperament is fantastic and he has done absolute wonders for my confidence.  I will ride him anywhere and in any situation, including the dreaded roadwork.  I really can't thank you & Katie enough for both finding him & for letting us spend so much time with him before we went ahead and bought him.  Again a big, big thank you to you both & we will keep you up to date with his (and ours!) progress.

Take care, Steph & Colin.

JULY 2008

Can buying a horse really be this easy? After retiring the horse I had for ten years, I was really worried about buying a new horse, having seen countless friends through various disasters. While everything I'd read about Friesians sounded wonderful, I was pretty sceptical as no breed is ever described as bad tempered or difficult to handle! Riding Age as my first experience of a Friesian was so exciting, but then I believed nothing would match up. I was looking for a 15.2hh,  8 year old, and while Jackie & Katie were happy to keep looking, they encouraged me (not pushed) to try a 16hh, 4 year old, as they thought long term he was the better match.  I was nervous about a young horse being too much for me, and so it took a while to decide.  Even after he was home & was an angel from day 1, I kept putting off writing this incase it was tempting fate.  He has been home with me 3 months now & hasn't put a foot wrong.  He really is an unbelievably gentle & affectionate horse, who tries his heart out for you.  He is very relaxed & a joy to be around.  I still can't believe my luck, and can't praise Katie & Jackie enough.  I had months of visiting the yard, and they were never anything but helpful & friendly.  You always knew where you stood, nothing was hidden, & nothing was too much trouble. Every article I have read on buying horses recommends taking the time that Jackie & Katie allow, but I have yet to find anywhere else with such quality horses where you are able to do this.  I would whole heartedly recommend the breed, and making the trip to visit Jackie & Katie however far it is.  As for tempting fate, if it goes wrong now, I only have myself to blame, as I really have bought my perfect horse, and hope to spend the rest of my like trying to do him justice.

Time has passed so quickly & I wanted to let you know how we're getting on.  Ynskje has settled into Lucknam beautifully & she & I have grown in confidence enormously.  She is such an interesting character, lots of excitement when you need it but I have also been leading the kids on ponies from her & she is just fantastic, incredibly calm when with the little ones & seems to enjoy all the fuss they give her.  Even Tim is learning to ride now!

Thank you both so much, you were absolutely right about her & she keeps getting better & better.

JULY 2008

I came to Jackie and Katie having decided that Friesians were the breed for me for no better reason than liking the look of them and liking what I had read about their temperament! I had lost a lot of confidence with a mare that I had bought with a friend, she had a nasty turning and running habit which turned into a regular pattern as she lost trust in me and vice versa.

Jackie and Katie were both so welcoming and patient, they asked me about my previous experiences and what was important to me.  As is common I wanted the perfect horse!  I told them that the most important things were temperament and nice paces but that if that could come in the same package as a lovely baroque style gelding with a long mane that would be a bonus! They managed to find me my dream.  A 5 year old beautiful baroque gelding named Luckas.  He was a little younger than I ideally wanted but Jackie and Katie had spent time with him and thought that he would suit me. I live around 300 miles away from Jackie and Katie but kept in regular contact, they weren’t happy to let him come to me until they were sure that he was right.  They had him for a further 5 weeks, schooling him and making sure that he was completely safe.  I schooled him in the school and in the field and hacked him out while he was there.  I had decided he was perfect way before they agreed.

He has been with me for 5 weeks now and he hasn’t disappointed once.  He is a star, I have been having regular lessons on him (my instructor is in love with him too) and hack him out regularly on the estate where I am a livery – he hasn’t put a foot wrong so far.  If I’m unsure about anything I call or text either Jackie or Katie and they have proven to give great advice.  It’s all too easy to get advice but this you can trust!

I cannot commend them highly enough and they have given me the most well adjusted 5 year old horse that I have ever seen.  Oh, and he’s also the most beautiful horse I have ever seen – did I mention that!?!

Thanks again

Lynn and Luckas

SEPTEMBER 2008

Dear Jackie & Katie

Thank you so much for finding Wouter for me.  I'm delighted to have a Friesian at long last. He's an ideal hack for me.  When I'm in a laid back mood, he is happy to walk calmly around the countryside, but he can produce quite a turn of speed if I ask him to.  Also, that great big trot is lots of fun!. Wouter is the sweetest termpered horse I've ever known.  He hasn't so much as pulled a face at me.  Lots of people admire Wouter, and I'm quick to tell them what a good job Team Edison did in getting him for me.  I'm so glad I used a reputable agent to find me my dream horse, because it took all the risk and hassle out of the quest. Thank you again.
