How much should I pay?
Prices of Friesian horses vary widely, depending on their age, breeding, gender, quality & level of training. You will have to pay a premium if you want a good quality Friesian, there is no such thing as a ‘cheap’ Friesian. If you are contemplating buying a Friesian horse you must of course take into consideration your budget. To buy a ‘cheap Friesian’ is something you will sooner or later regret because there is no-one who sells a Friesian cheaply unless there is something wrong with it.
Learn how to understand the papers (see horses section for explanation), receive a guarantee that it does not suffer any summer allergies, get a full vet’s certificate, x-rays & ask about the horse’s past. If your budget is strained, wait a year until you have saved the necessary funds to ensure you buy the right horse. You will be together for many years & with that in mind the wait is more endurable. ‘Cheap’ Friesians do not have good blood lines or qualities of the Friesian. They have been imported from dealers who do not want them themselves.
We will not sell you a horse but prefer you to buy it from us.
If you are seriously interested in purchasing a horse from us we ask that in the first instance you come & see our own horses. We will then discuss your requirements, find out your riding capabilities, what you would like to do with your horse, whether purely hacking, showing or dressage from Prelim to Grand Prix. We will then find a number of horses which we feel will be suitable for you. All our horses are FPS registered & normally with at least a 2nd premie & are all subject to a full vetting before we purchase them in Holland. Upon arrival they are fully assessed by us both in the School & out on hacks under a variety of conditions. We then continue to school them professionally by Katie BHS II & they are hacked out by riders of varying degrees of ability until they are sold.
When you have decided on a particular horse, as a special benefit we normally grant a 1 week return period to protect you in the unlikely event that the chemistry between the two of you is lacking. To protect you against any disappointments, & ourselves against possible poor judgment, we require that the horse has a 5 star vetting, at your expense. This should happen immediately before the sale transaction. You can decide not to do this only if it is agreed upon in advance. Using our excellent trainers at our premises, we offer a complimentary problem solving service for any client who has purchased through us. We believe this is a unique service and rely on the good ethics of clients not to abuse it.
